On Sep. 9, during his “Trumpapalloza” convention, Donald Trump shouted into a microphone that if Republicans win the midterm election he’d give every adult American $5,000.
There are more than 200 million adult Americans, so that would involve an expenditure of more than a trillion dollars.
The federal deficit is already $40 trillion. Worth noting is that more than a quarter of that debt was created during Donald Trump’s one and a half terms in the White House.
Here’s a thought, that same trillion dollars could reform and fund comprehensive healthcare for all Americans. It could rebuild crumbling infrastructure. Then there’s education. Child care. Elder care. Affordable housing. Medical research. National parks. That much money could simultaneously fund any number of national priorities that have been neglected (because billionaires constantly need more tax breaks) for decades.
If we truly want to “Make America Great Again,” then I suggest we do something other than elect Republicans.
