Dear Andrew Wright, deputy chief with the Salt Lake City Police Department:
There is much interest here in upcoming efforts to rid the Jordan Canal area, just west of the Fairpark, of drug addicts.
Also about intentions to follow up on where they move to in order to deal with them there because, well, the Jackson/Guadalupe residential area already has an out-of-control drug addict/nomad problem.
Since this is part of the area where they ran to, it is the most likely place for them to increase their activities.
It’s a daily chore to ask groups to “please move off” who have plopped themselves down on the sidewalk to cook their drugs. But you don’t catch them all in time and cleaning up their litter is another daily task.
These people need a place to move off to, and not infest residential neighborhoods.
A few years back, the sheriff suggested setting aside an acreage for them to move off into. Everyone in authority jumped all over that idea but no one could suggest an alternative.
Costly tiny homes won’t house thousands.
Your efforts are appreciated and we watch and hope for a manageable solution.
