Letter: How do the prognostications of a MAGA supporter hold up?

I saved a Dec. 1 Tribune opinion piece of an exuberant MAGA guy whose enthusiasm for all that Trump was going to do as president illustrates exactly why our country is in the direst of times. This MAGA guy — like many MAGA supporters — actually believed a habitual liar was telling the truth.

Here are some of the mind-numbing quotes from the MAGA supporter:

  • “Trump’s return … could very well precede a great comeback for our nation.”
  • Trump won because he promised “a safer world and a stronger economy, promises he could make creditable because he had already been president.”
  • “Deregulation and tax cuts funded by slashing wasteful government spending will be like rocket fuel for the economy.”
  • Trump “is surrounded by fierce proponents of the Constitution and the rule of law … democracy in America has never been stronger.” (Yes – correctly quoted!)
  • “Much of the fear-mongering about a second Trump presidency is overblown.”
  • “To my fellow young Utahns; We have hope and prosperity ahead … every reason to believe that life will become more affordable and the American dream more accessible.”
  • “As a young, married man … I feel more confident that I will be able to pay for necessities, get a good job and buy a house someday … more peace of mind about the state and trajectory of the world.”
  • “I believe that Utah, America and likely the world will be safer and more prosperous than ever with Trump as president.”
  • One hundred days of Trump, and the exact opposite has happened to each of the MAGA guy’s expectations.
