John Curtis has only just begun his term as a Utah senator and, like his predecessor Mitt Romney, he must rise to this moment of critical urgency, even if it means risking political power.
While Sen. Mike Lee has clearly chosen to abandon his conscience in pursuit of favor with anti-democratic policies, Utahns now look to Curtis to represent the reasonable values of our state. That is why it is critical that he speak out clearly and publicly about where he stands.
Does Curtis support deporting people to El Salvador without due process? Does he condone members of Congress sharing sensitive military plans with people without proper security clearances over encrypted apps like Signal? These are fundamental questions about law, safety and the integrity of our democracy.
The people of Utah deserve answers. Sen. Curtis, we need to hear from you through direct, in-person engagement.
For the sake of our republic, this is a moment that demands moral clarity and political courage. It will not be any other Republican senator. It must be you. If you support accountability and the rule of law, stand up for them.
