It’s been interesting watching the local reactions to obscenities yelled at BYU road games. While I know some of the Latter-day Saint calls demanding restitution and repentance from those Catholic and state universities are a bit tongue-in-cheek, there is a remarkable lack of introspection going on here.
Maybe the LDS community should ask, “Why don’t they like us?” I know some have suggested it’s because of LDS treatment of women and the queer community, and those things might be factors, but seriously, I doubt those rowdy fans are all devoted LGBT+ allies, or rabid feminists.
Maybe the LDS community should look within themselves. Fairview, Texas and the Utah Legislature might be good places to start looking for examples of reasons why some have negative views about the “Mormons.”
