Utah lawmakers may have passed a bill to ban Pride flags in schools and government buildings, but let’s be clear — this will not silence us, and it will not stop our work. Those of us in the LGBTQ+ community, along with our allies, remain steadfast in our purpose: to educate, to enlighten, and to foster a world that embraces all people, no matter who they are or who they love.
If anything, this ban only strengthens our resolve. The Pride flag has always been a powerful symbol, but it is not the foundation of our movement — we are. We stand together, and now more than ever, we lean on each other. And we call upon our allies to step up, to speak out, and to show their support in new and meaningful ways.
Make no mistake: on June 1st, a Pride flag will be raised. Maybe not at Miner’s Hospital, maybe not on government property, but it will fly high, and it will mean more than ever before. Because our pride is not something that can be legislated away. We will rise. We will be seen. And we will keep fighting for the future we deserve.
