Letter: Why have a government run by citizens at all when we can outsource everything to for-profit corporations?

As I understand it, many federal jobs were created by Congress, in an established system of decision- and budget-making. Basically we all agreed what was important to everyone, and then agreed on how much to pay for the work and what rights and benefits workers should have. But with private industry you are not guaranteed those same protections that federal jobs provide.

If we attempt to extrapolate some sort of possible intention behind DOGE-related job losses and subsequent tax breaks for the rich, we might come to the conclusion that the endgame is to let the rich make more and keep more profits.

A job migration from public service jobs to private industry labor will raise the carrying capacity of corporations to generate more profits.

And the very regulatory agencies that keep these companies from pillaging the planet and poisoning all of us in their profit-making efforts will cease to exist. Profits can truly run free, without any hampering moral or ecological boundaries from the pesky EPA or DOI.

Perhaps instead of government agencies, we will decide to contract out all government work, from military and security to administration. Why have a government run by citizens at all when we can outsource this work to a for-profit corporation! In fact, why not just get rid of the politicians all together and put the lobbyists in office. Vote Corporate America 2028!
