Letter: Regardless of one’s politics or beliefs, it should be clear that Trump is putting our nation at risk by supporting Putin

I was born in 1950. I remember vividly the Cold War years with Russia. I remember the dismantling of the USSR. I was close enough to remember WWII and the imperialism of both Germany and Japan.

We have worked, as a country, with our allies to ensure that these threats of imperialism are just that — threats that do not come to fruition.

Putin aggressively and without provocation attacked Ukraine. We, along with other countries, have tried to support Ukraine since a win for Putin poses a threat to all of us. Now we have a president who not only wants to stop giving support to Ukraine but also wants to let Russia keep the territory it took from Ukraine and is evening spreading a lie that Ukraine, not Russia, started the war.

What alternate reality is Trump living in? It doesn’t matter your politics or beliefs, this president is putting our nation at risk by supporting Putin.

And no. The big, beautiful ocean(s) between the U.S. and Russia won’t keep us safe, as the threat of a Russian attack with nuclear missiles is real and that big, beautiful ocean isn’t going to protect us.

We no longer have a balance of power between the executive, judicial and legislative branches of the government, so it is up to we, the people, to call Trump out by writing our congressional representatives to take action to stop this.

Jackii Mudge, Sandy
