Kudos to the Unified Police Department for standing up to the lies and thuggish behavior of ICE agents when ICE illegally detained Brandon Colin, trampled his constitutional rights and put his life at risk.
Credit goes to UPD for believing one of the citizens they are sworn to protect over the outright lies of ICE agents, and thank the stars that UPD was able to find clear video evidence of the attempted frame up by ICE through UPD’s diligent investigation.
The UPD officers and investigators should be commended for their professionalism and integrity — and it reflects well on their leadership.
But the question remains of how many other constitutional violations by ICE go unreported, unseen and not believed? It appears that ICE, like the gestapo before them, is not answerable to any local authority and acts with impunity. The fluidity and ease with which the ICE agents in this instance lied, putting an innocent citizen’s life and liberty at risk, is chilling and shows that ICE has no fear of consequences from their illegal behavior and no respect for the citizens of Utah.
The deafening silence from ICE leadership only confirms this.
