Letter: Utah legislators should leave educational decisions to the experts in the field

“Dear” legislators,

So you want to cut millions from the budgets of Utah’s public institutions of higher learning.

You want “high-demand and high-wage” programs to take precedence over other areas of study. Essentially, you are saying that my degree in English literature has little value in the real world. You might as well turn all of Utah’s public institutions into trade schools!

May I remind you that education is a personal goal, and expanding the mind leads to logical thinking and rational behavior, thus leading to a well-educated and discerning public. Perhaps that’s the point; you might be voted out!

Please leave educational decisions to the experts in the field who have taken many of those “undesirable” courses in order to become experts.

Linda Brimmer, Sandy
