Letter: The intersection of 1300 East and E Murray Holladay Road is a safety hazard

I would like to bring an unsafe road to the city’s attention.

The intersection of 1300 East and E Murray Holladay Road has had several near accidents where drivers turning left and right have come close to hitting children.

First, I request that the city fix the crosswalk buttons. Several of them are stiff and do not work well.

Second, I request that E Murray Holladay Road from at least 1300 East to Kings Row Drive be changed from a five lane road to a three lane road, add bicycle lanes for increased biker safety and buffer for pedestrians on the sidewalks, and designate this section as a school zone.

Additionally I would request that there are red arrows for the left and right turns at the 1300 East and E Murray Holladay Road intersection.

I would further request that 1300 East be worked on in this area. It is distressing to travel 1300 East and see areas with no sidewalks or bike lanes, especially where there are bus stops.

I drive my child from Sugar House through there for school. I would much rather bike my child to school, but the unsafe conditions here are preventing this.

Please do not wait until there is a dead or injured child to do something about our safety. We should not have to travel in cars in order to be safe from cars.
