Letter: A pride flag’s message is “everyone is welcome here.” What’s bad about that?

I see in the news that a Utah state legislator is once again planning to introduce a bill making it illegal to display a rainbow flag in Utah classrooms. I find this amazing, seeing as how a rainbow flag sends the message, “Everyone is welcome here.” That welcome message applies to straight people as well as LGBTQ people, to white-skinned people as well as brown or black-skinned people, and to theists as well as atheists.

Everyone is welcome! How is this a bad message to send to students?

I hope that readers will contact their representatives in the state Legislature and urge them to reject this bad bill which serves no good purpose. It only punishes young people who need our love and support.
