Letter: I hope the pendulum of truth, honesty and decency will soon swing back to the middle

The political pendulum of our country’s long, tumbling history has swung right and left. I fervently hope for the sake of my progeny, friends and country that the pendulum of truth, honesty and decency will soon swing back to the middle.

Our loaded Supreme Court is disrespected, unbalanced and untrustworthy.

The coming presidency is a risible disgrace. Trump is a depraved, scot-free criminal. He is filling his Cabinet with the inept and the corrupted. Inconceivable!

Our greed-infested Utah Legislature with a milquetoast governor are all askew vis-a-vis empathy, kindness and fairness. The independent, Democrat and other reasoned Utah humans are hamstrung by a dominant, inflexible church and Republican Party. I hearken back to the times of Scott Matheson and Cal Rampton.

So, can we swing back to a level of harmony? Or shall the windblown harmonies of instability cause us to fail — like the Tacoma Narrows bridge in 1940, which fell apart into the sea below.

In a lighter vein, may I say our national division has gone too far. Perhaps we should begin to respect and listen to those people with whom we disagree. We may learn useful things, reverse misunderstanding, and have more in common than we realized.

Sheldon Ward, Ogden
