Letter: Judging from the election results, most Utahns support drastic policy changes. Will that support last?

Now that Donald Trump has regained the presidency, we can expect him to implement policies drawn from “Project 2025,” the 922-page strategic plan composed by some 150 members of his previous administration.

Some of these policies will affect those of us in Utah.

For example, all federal funding to combat climate change will be terminated. This will end federal subsidies for Utah’s solar, wind and geothermal energy industries.

Conversely, fossil fuel production on federal lands will be maximized via relaxed regulations. This will increase the unhealthy air we often have in northern Utah.

All funding for National Public Radio and the Public Broadcasting System will be cut, eliminating noncommercial radio and TV throughout the state.

Federal subsidies to farmers will be reduced.

Medicare and Medicaid will be largely privatized, increasing cost to patients.

Abortion of any kind will be outlawed, potentially endangering the health of every woman in Utah of childbearing age.

Judging from the election results, it seems most Utahns support such policy changes. Once they’re implemented, though, will that support last?
