Letter: Apparently, our children need to be taught how to be winners — not losers like Jesus

Consider a popular philosophy that says there are two kinds of people, winners and losers.

One thing matters. Winning. The winners take and the losers lose. Why, it’s nothing but Darwin. Survival of the fittest. The beings we see around us are the winners. Who are the winners? They are ones who have offspring and who have the resources to maximize the odds for survival of their offspring. The losers go away, as well they should. In fact, let’s help the losers go away.

Now consider another popular philosophy, the teachings of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ was a friend of losers, and he was the biggest loser of them all. He got nailed to a cross, as well he should if the above philosophy is the far superior philosophy. His philosophy should be stamped out. It’s a bad influence on our children. Our children need to be taught how to be winners, not losers.

So, why do we remember Jesus Christ instead of most of the big winners who would have nailed him to a cross? Why do we look up to Jesus Christ and admire him and strive to raise ourselves to the high moral standards of this loser? Why?
