Letter: Let’s consider the LDS 13th Article of Faith in light of who Latter-day Saints chose as president

Once is a mistake. Twice is a coincidence. Three times is a pattern.

With the recent election, we now have a pattern for the vast majority of Utah Mormons about who they choose to empower and represent them: the candidate who is the antithesis of the virtues to which they pretend.

Let’s consider their own 13th Article of Faith. They claim to believe in being:

Honest – yet they elevate a man who is infamously dishonest.

True – yet they elevate a man who has broken every oath he took, including to the U.S. Constitution.

Chaste – yet they choose to represent their values by an adulterer, a rapist.

Benevolent – yet they elevate a man of such malevolence that he admiringly quotes Adolf Hitler in his speeches.

In truth, they choose to worship at the altar of Fox News and other extremist right-wing media.

There is a rot in the heart of Mormondom; a rot in the hearts of Utah Mormons.

We need to remember this hypocrisy the next time the church releases some slick advertising campaign claiming they seek after things that are virtuous, lovely, of good report or praiseworthy. There is a pattern to the contrary.
