Letter: When power-hungry lawmakers call being slapped down “a sad day for Utah voters,” respond with your vote

Shame on our legislative leaders, Stuart Adams and Mike Schultz.

Shame.

Not for their complete disregard for the content of the legislative boundaries initiative approved by a majority of Utahns. Not for their hurried attempt to create an amendment to diminish the role of citizen initiatives in the future. Not for writing a misleading or misrepresentation of the intent of their amendment. Not for asking the Supreme Court to decide these questions instead of listening to the will of the people.

No. Shame on them for attempting to increase their own power at the expense of their constituents.

When they say, “it’s a sad day for Utah voters” or “those who label these efforts as deceptive are the ones attempting to mislead voters” or " the court punted and made a law about initiative power, creating chaos and striking at the very heart of our republic,” look past their power-grabbing, inflammatory rhetoric and then vote them out of office for not representing the will of the people, the constituents they only appear to represent.
