Letter: What’s it going to be, my fellow Republicans, the Constitution or the party?

Admittedly, I was a Republican in name only at first, so I could vote in Utah. In Utah, the Republican primary is the election.

And then I got to thinking. What kind of a Republican would I like to see in the world? And I decided I am going to be the Republican I wish to see in the world.

After all, I’m already a huge fan of capitalism. There is no thrill like getting a purchase order for a product I make with my hands. I’m an advocate of the principle that the government which governs best governs least. I’m an advocate for fiscal and environmental conservatism. We conservatives live within our means and we responsibly manage the priceless irreplaceable assets that belong to our children.

I’m loyal to my fellow Republicans, many of whom are my loved ones, but I have a higher loyalty to our Constitution and to our constitutional democratic republic.

So, fellow Republicans.

What do we think of the coup our fellow Republicans are planning with the purpose of installing Donald Trump as president regardless of how the election goes?

What do we think about us carefully inserting our operatives as election officials so we can refuse to certify votes that don’t favor our pre-chosen winner?

Are these the last of the glorious good old days when we could still say no to a demagogue?

Suggested reading for my fellow Republicans: George Washington’s farewell letter.

What’s it going to be, fellow Republicans, the Constitution or the party? What’s our loyalty? Which one did we swear an oath to uphold?
