Finally a sports page headline and noteworthy article about Real Salt Lake!
But of course we had to get to first place to even get mentioned ahead of the NHL team with no name, or the Jazz who aren’t even playing or a whole host of teams and players that don’t have anything to do with Utah.
Sports analyst Andy Larsen got it right and made us proud as he featured Chicho Arango who was the best goal scorer, even ahead of Messi, at least for a while. So glad to see more news about Real that is really producing for us in Salt Lake as opposed to the nonstop fantasizing about our football and basketball teams that aren’t playing now, the NHL team yet to play here, or the pie-in-the-sky MLB team that one day may come here to play.
Real is the one team that is punching above its weight in this small market, and the team and its players are known around the world. Makes me think back to the days when the skeptics were wondering why we should have a Major League Soccer team here. What were they thinking?
Of course, when we were the national champions, they were surprised. And when we were one goal away from being the best team on the continent, well, they didn’t even know what that was about, because no Utah team has ever gotten that far!
