As my representative in the U.S. House, John Curtis has led Republicans to embrace conservative environmental solutions. He’s the right candidate to deliver for Utah on this critical issue in the U.S. Senate.
Curtis has mainstreamed climate policy among House Republicans. He founded and chairs the 84-member Conservative Climate Caucus, representing over one-third of the GOP conference. Curtis has made the case that energy independence and affordability priorities also support the environment. Rather than shutting down nuclear and depending on dirty fossil fuel imports as many countries in Europe have, Curtis’s energy vision is all-of-the-above. It embraces nuclear, hydrogen, cleaner fossil fuels, domestic mining, and carbon capture in addition to conventional renewables. By removing government barriers to energy and mineral development, America can innovate and produce clean, cheap energy while exporting it abroad.
Curtis has embraced young voters like me who are searching for smart environmental leadership. He has worked closely with the American Conservation Coalition, a 40,000-member nonprofit with branches from Salt Lake City to my own campus at Dartmouth. Curtis received the Eco-Right Champion Award at the 2023 ACC Summit held in Utah. By mobilizing young voters, Curtis can lead conservatives to political victories.
Further, Curtis has prioritized environmental problems facing Utah. He helped pass legislation to balance preservation and recreation on Utah’s amazing federal lands and has prioritized legislation to restore the Great Salt Lake. Curtis would be a fitting successor to Sen. Mitt Romney, who also recognizes climate as an important issue.
In the Senate, Curtis would build on Sen. Romney’s legacy by encouraging his own party to embrace climate solutions.
I urge fellow Utahns who want to see conservatives embrace environmental stewardship to support John Curtis as our newest senator.
