The UTA has spoken that they do not want to be part of the solution for canyon traffic.
Last year they went from ten buses to five buses in Little Cottonwood Canyon, citing staffing shortages.
Same story 12 months later. Five drivers? You cannot hire five additional drivers?!
Last year I tried multiple times to ride the bus to do my part. They were literally like a Tokyo subway, packed so tight that it was impossible to add another passenger.
The ride could take two or three hours — packed like sardines, during a Covid winter.
I got off the bus and went back to my car each time I tried.
Often the UTA app would show that all five buses were stuck in traffic in the canyon, so that all the skiers going to bus stops would not see a bus for hours.
Twelve months later they claim they still cannot hire five additional drivers.
What are the top officers doing to justify their salary that is five times higher than the average Utah salary?
UTA will not be part of the solution — they are speaking loudly and clearly that they have no interest in being part of the solution.
