June has been quite a month.
It began with the country under siege by a group of political terrorists threatening economic destruction using the arcane and quite possibly unconstitutional debt limit as a weapon.
That was followed in short order by the indictment of Donald Trump for endangering our country by the flagrant misuse of classified documents. His supporters did not even try to defend the indefensible but instead complained about the weaponization of the Justice Department and the fact that neither Hillary Clinton nor Joe Biden has been indicted for similar crimes.
This is very much akin to Al Capone calling the police because someone double-parked on his street.
To think this might be enough for one month is to demonstrate a lack of imagination.
Just as Donald Trump was surrendering to law enforcement officials, the usual suspects in the House of Representatives (Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene and friends) were holding a “hearing” to honor the insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, many of whom have been sentenced to prison.
This celebration calls to mind the question put to Sen. Joseph McCarthy by Joseph Welch in the 1954 Army-McCarthy hearings: “Until this moment, senator, I think I never really gauged your cruelty or your recklessness. Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last?”
Stay tuned. June is not yet over.
