Letter: How can Mormons who hold themselves to high standards of morality support Trump?

When I moved to Utah back in the early ‘60s I had never heard of a Mormon. I soon learned that most of my school friends were Mormon and they, their parents and other neighbors all tried their best to convince me to attend their church.

I was told that it was the “true church” and they prided themselves on their moral attitudes of not drinking, smoking, swearing or having premarital sex.

It went on and on for years and I was told if I didn’t become a Mormon I would never make it to heaven, which was confusing and impressionable all at the same time.

I did attend the Mormon church on several occasions but realized early on that it just wasn’t for me.

My question to all of them now is: “How can you follow such an immoral human being as Donald Trump when you hold yourselves up to such a high standard of morality? He represents everything you are against.”

I will never understand the attraction to this man who has complete disregard for traditional moral standards. How can those who claim to follow such a moral high ground support this person?
