Letter: Utah legislators believe that unbridled capitalism trumps other beliefs

The front page above the fold article in the Feb. 25 edition of The Tribune uses the word “fiduciary” at least five times in its discussion of SB96. Our legislators believe that unbridled and rampant capitalism trumps other beliefs and concepts that many Utah residents deem to be important.

Sound fiscal management should, in my opinion, be mixed with social responsibility so that everyone can enjoy life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.

I am reminded of Frank Capra’s 1946 film classic, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” that juxtaposed the characters George Bailey and Mr. Potter who were at odds on how to manage the public space. In my mind Bailey represents goals of the “woke” and “ESG” (environmental, social, and governance) movements. Mr. Potter is the embodiment of our Utah Legislature.

My inescapable conclusion is that we do not have such “a wonderful life” here in Utah.
