Letter: When given the opportunity to help veterans, Mike Lee went AWOL

Sen. Mike Lee has created an ad for television which is shown quite often portraying him as a patriot who cares about those who serve in our nation’s Armed Forces. This is a total fabrication as proven by his negative vote for the recently approved PACT Act.

The PACT Act, commonly referred to as the “Burn Pit Bill,” will take care of many of the health care needs of 3.2 million American veterans who served in our nation’s major wars during the past sixty years. It was passed in the U.S. Senate by an 86 yea - 11 nay vote, and signed by President Joe Biden recently.

Funds from the PACT Act would have helped the veteran mentioned in Lee’s ad if he had survived the travails of war, and needed health care assistance when he came home to his family. Thanks to those senators who do care about veterans, this will be a definite possibility for those who are still with us. Mike Lee does not deserve to stand next to a Gold Star family member.

Mike Lee never served in the military. When given the opportunity to help those who did through voting for the PACT Act, he was found to be AWOL.
