The phrase “follow the money” became legend during and just after the Watergate scandal.
When my family and I tabulate back-of-the-napkin statistics on ridership for the new UTA 209 bus line of less than 3%, a line that runs from 4 a.m. to past midnight every 15 minutes, I can’t help but think of this line.
How can UTA financially afford to run these lines if no one is riding the buses? Is it a lack of accountability or oversight? Or something else?
In a state known for both its financial shrewdness and technological savvy, it leaves one wondering if the shady financial scandals of the recent past are as buried as UTA’s slick public relations department say they are.
