I wish I still had the Aug. 28 paper. I don’t remember the names of the facility or the director. But the article about cats getting gassed if they didn’t pass some idiotic “test” was horrifying. Neither my wife nor I could finish the article because it made us so sick, sad and angry. We both figured there would be letters in the Public Forum by now. Since there haven’t been, here goes.
The article described how cats not displaying ideal temperament at the shelter should be gassed. Let me explain what on God’s green earth is wrong with that logic:
1) A cat that’s lost its home is bound to be defensive and scared out of its wits. What should we do? Gas it.
2) My wife and I rescued a cat from a nice lady who had a very abusive boyfriend. Ashes the cat hid behind our couch for three days when we got her home. She was afraid of the doorbell (because it might be the lady’s boyfriend) for all the 11 years we had her and loved her. Sounds like this guy would have gassed her too. All because she had been afraid in her prior life.
In case nobody’s gotten the point, this practice is absolutely unforgivable. This facility should be shut down until somebody with knowledge of cats is in charge.
