Here’s an idea on how to spend some of the hundreds of millions of surplus dollars our state has. Spend some of it on low income housing and more homeless shelters. Currently there are too few beds in too few homeless shelters, and very little low income housing.
At the mayors’ discretion, police tear down homeless camps and have their belongings hauled to the dump if they don’t move someplace else. This only creates a sad circle that’s repeated over and over. Where are the homeless and those who can’t afford outrageous rents supposed to live? The homeless aren’t going away – they have no place to go – that’s why they’re homeless. Duh!
Long-term solutions need to be implemented. I wonder what our legislators’ attitudes toward the homeless would be if they themselves had to live on the streets during December and January.
It would be interesting if we could listen to how they’ll justify to the Savior their treatment of these people.
