Letter: It’s hard to believe GOP voters aren’t peeved the RNC is funding Trump’s private legal bills

It’s been reported, over the past several months, the Republican National Committee (RNC) has funded about $720,000 for Donald Trump’s defense involving numerous civil and criminal investigations, including those currently being probed by the New York Attorney General’s office. It has further agreed increase the amount provided for his defense fund to total $1.6 million.

In April of 2020, Forbes estimated Trump’s net worth at $2.1 billion. Unlike the majority of Utah Republicans, I’m a minority Democrat and have never donated to the RNC. However, if I had, I think I would have been ticked-off having my donations diverted to Trump’s legal woes dealing with his private business ventures before he became president.

That would have been especially irksome considering his massive net worth. Paying the $1.6 million in legal expenses from his personal wealth would still leave him with the ability to shell out that same amount over 1,249 more times.

I would think donors to the RNC would insist on their donations being used only for the political objectives originally solicited.
