Letter: Sen. Weiler is transparent and open to criticism that is fair and civil

Bethany Rodgers’ recent article, “Is blocking social posts censorship?” was reasonable and well written. I would like to add a first person perspective regarding Sen. Todd Weiler and blocking. The senator is as transparent as possible and open to all criticism that is fair and civil.

For several years, I wrote a frequent opinion column for another publication. During that time, I took issue with Sen. Weiler’s position against school sex education. Subsequently, he and I communicated at length, resulting in my inviting him to join me in a written debate in a following column. He accepted.

Then, and since, we have agreed and disagreed, in print and on Twitter, gently and civilly.

If Sen. Weiler should find the need to block anyone from his Twitter account, I feel confident that he would be justified, based on his interactions with me.
