Letter: Gov. Cox has a nice family and home, so where is he on funding for affordable housing?

(Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune) Gov. Spencer Cox at a news conference in Salt Lake City on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021.

The recent Scott Pierce piece on the TV viewing preferences of Gov. Spencer Cox was a pleasant look into who the governor is and his values. It was especially pleasing to know the the governor refuses to watch the cable TV news channels, Fox News in particular. Good for him, I don’t either. I did not vote for Cox but I like him a bunch and what this story reveals about his values and family home life. Nice family, nice home.

And then there is what the new governor does for lower income, affordable housing. If you look at the total lack of proposed funding support for affordable housing in his proposed state budget you have to believe he missed the boat. Utah is in the worst housing crisis ever. The governor knows how bad things are. Yet he knows what it takes to make a good home.

It takes a decent, safe, affordable place to live. So where is he on state funding for housing? There is time to do something about it before the legislative season ends next week. The governor can be the better guy we like.
