The Utah State Legislature is considering a bill to increase electric vehicle fees up to five times more in order that they “pay their fair share.”
Finally, it’s about time that automobiles pay their way.
Oh, can you please make gasoline cars pay their full share too? Utah’s annual highway and road transportation costs are roughly $1.3 billion and gasoline taxes only provide typically $350 million. The rest of this funding comes from general taxes, fees, and borrowing. If we increase the gas tax by just $1.11 more per gallon, finally autos will pay their fair share, leaving more of our taxes for programs to help people, say, like education.
