Letter: Remote learning can work for many families

With COVID-19 positive cases in Utah increasing, many school districts have announced that they will be starting school one to two weeks later than normal, and many others are still working to come up with a plan. School districts are struggling to find the right solution to reopen schools.

Sadly, no one solution will work for every family. Finding a balance between the need to provide students with good education and their safety and wellbeing is proving to be difficult. We need a variety of options to meet the different needs of Utah families.

Continuing remote learning is one option that works for many families, including mine. I have researched many different online platforms and found that Google gives teachers the freedom to customize the learning experience to meet the needs of different students and classes. Making the online teaching process easier for teachers to customize learning will benefit students and free up more time for teachers to meet on video calls with students.

I know remote learning is challenging for some families, especially those parents who work outside the home, which is why we need other options, like smaller class sizes, for those families it does not work for. It's important we as parents stay positive and work with our teachers and schools to make this upcoming school year a success.
