Letter: We don’t need a governor who leaves

I was disappointed John Huntsman was able to get on this year’s ballot for governor. During my 25 years working in state government, he has been Utah’s worst governor. He has been trading on his family name for years, without many actual accomplishments completed to conclusion. He claims to have “laid the foundation for 15 years of prosperity in Utah,” but left Gov. Gary Herbert to finish the job.

In his first campaign, one of his promises was “to get rid of the deadwood in the Department of Community and Economic Development.” Shortly after taking office, he called many loyal employees from our department to a “get acquainted” meeting. The next day, he ordered most of those people to attend a meeting to get their new assignments. He then decimated our department by firing 28 dedicated employees who were then ushered from the building under armed guard and his No. 1 henchman, Jason Chaffetz, not allowing them to return to desks to collect belongings.

Soon after, Governor Huntsman and crew became aware eliminating those positions could cause a significant loss of federal funds, and quickly scrambled to refill those positions. His campaign slogan, instead of “a governor who leads,” should be “a governor who leaves.”

I don't know why anyone would want to see Mr. Huntsman return to the position he deserted, when we have an accomplished, competent candidate in Spencer Cox. He has my vote, and I hope enough others, to become our next governor.
