Education Secretary Betsy DeVos has transferred $180 million from public schools and colleges to private schools and religious schools. The money came from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief & Economic Security Act. This was meant for public schools and colleges. It looks like we have a fox guarding the hen house.
Maybe Betsy should spend a few years in a government supported facility where many of the residents could have benefited from a well-funded public education system.
Utah’s public school system will be hard pressed to come up with the required additional facilities, teachers, administrators, custodians and school nurses as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Many schools in Utah have between 30 and 36 students per class. The Utah education system does not have the luxury of losing millions of dollars so people who are already affluent can receive a special bonus.
