Letter: Distance learning isn’t best for everyone

As a senior at East High School, I have had an extremely difficult time adjusting to learning how to move from public to online school, especially coming from a family with a refugee background where education is not something that’s taught at home.

I must self-motivate myself to get my schoolwork done, but also make sure things are taken care of in my household. It is hard trying to teach myself the materials that I need to master the courses. Online school is difficult because I don’t have the help and the resources I would if I was at school. My parents sometimes forget that we still have schoolwork that needs to be completed because we are at home and aren’t at school. So, they have expectations for us to meet that we need to complete before giving our full and undivided attention to our schoolwork. Also, online schooling is extremely boring and with no type of interest, I slowly no longer want to do it.
