Letter: Send Hughes back to the private sector

I was somewhat surprised to see Greg Hughes running for governor. It seems he had disappeared for some time.

Is he qualified to be governor? Does anyone remember his tenure at the Utah Transit Authority? He was chairman of the board at UTA during the heyday of its insider deals with developers for special treatment on locations UTA was considering for expansion. Excessive salaries for everyone.

Just as the heat got turned up, out he goes and resigns. Just as all the scandal and self-dealing is exposed, he is conveniently out as the chairman of the board that was supposed to oversee those uses of taxpayer’s money.

Whether Hughes did or did not have any financial involvement in those deals is beside the point. It was his job to oversee that entity.

Move on to the homeless problem in Salt Lake City. As the editorial in the March 8 Salt Lake Tribune pointed out, it has not gone well. Hughes handed that off to Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox after he came across as the hero of the project that never had enough funding or organization. But it was a good look and photo op.

I am a resident of Draper and Hughes was our representative. Frankly, I am tired of him and his self-serving agenda. Greg needs to move on to the private sector where he can do as he pleases on his own dime.

Debbie Sanich, Draper
