A recent letter submitted by George E. Ekdahl accused George Pyle of using language that was too harsh and wrong in describing the actions of our president in dealing with the pandemic.
He made his case by providing an example of how Mr. Trump had implemented a travel ban restricting flights from China. This bold action by our president, he said, prevented a much more severe outbreak of the virus.
However, in Sunday’s New York Times, an article provides a very different account of what actually happened. In the two months following Trump’s restrictions, nearly 40,000 people flew directly from China to the U.S., including thousands directly from Wuhan. Upon arriving at airports, screening was haphazard at best.
Dwight Eisenhower provides an appropriate quote when accessing Trump’s leadership style: “Leadership consists of nothing but taking responsibility for everything that goes wrong and giving your subordinates credit for everything that goes well.”
Eisenhower being an old soldier, it is fun (actually very sad) to speculate what he would think of Trump and his leadership style. The ”colorful” language he might use is probably a little more harsh than Mr. Ekdahl would approve.
