In his speech during the last day of the impeachment proceedings, Rep. Chris Stewart parroted the right-wing talking point that the Democrats were only impeaching Trump because they hated him. This is nothing more than a partisan attempt to misrepresent what actually happened.

Nancy Pelosi had already answered this accusation sufficiently, but let me add a personal confirmation.

I don’t hate Donald Trump. I do find him annoying. I am also concerned about his total lack of moral principles. And I am convinced that he will continue to abuse the power of his office if allowed to by his enablers.

I believe he considers himself above every law and rule — in his marriages, in his business dealings and in his assault on the Constitution. I am troubled by his lack of compassion, his bottomless narcissism, his fragile ego, his attraction to dictators and their methods and his instinct for cruelty.

Finally, I am fully persuaded that he used the power and influence of the presidency to pressure a vulnerable foreign nation to interfere in the upcoming election.

No, Chris, I don’t hate him. But I believe he should be removed from office for these reasons.

Roger Terry, Orem
