Kudos to Mitt Romney, who has the courage to break from the blind allegiance of his GOP colleagues and speak the truth about Trump’s illegal overreach.

There is far more at stake than Trump’s attempts to coerce Ukraine and China to find political dirt on Biden. As a nation, we’re at a critical choice point. Will we succumb to the lawlessness of a mentally ill, self-serving would-be dictator who’s moving our country toward ruin, or will our highest principles of justice prevail? Will our democracy survive?

Since taking office, as Trump has mocked the Constitution, scorned the rule of law, berated Congressional authority, stonewalled due process and used his office for personal gain. The gutless, bootlicking GOP has supported Trump’s destructive agenda without conscience.

As Trump has alienated our allies, applauded dictators, encouraged foreign interference in our elections, attacked our intelligence community and worse, Republicans have been feckless sycophants oblivious to Trump’s capitulation.

Most Americans are exasperated with the GOP’s collusion and desperately hope the tipping point is near. Let’s support Romney in convincing his colleagues to finally demonstrate integrity, remove Trump from office and return us to the path of sanity, decency and responsibly functioning government.
