Letter: Gun owners would not be ‘punished’ by legal limits

Regarding Larry Cox’s recent commentary (“Gun restrictions punish law-abiding people,” Aug. 19), I could not disagree more.

First of all, is he actually comparing the murder of children and families to his childhood memories of the entire class being punished for one student misbehaving?

What did they do? Talk out of turn? Get out of line? Make a joke during class? I’m pretty sure it wasn’t killing fellow students.

The one common denominator in every single mass shooting is the gun.

No, gun restrictions do not punish law-abiding people. Those who refuse to follow the “well-regulated” part of our Constitution and fight reasonable gun regulations like strong background checks, red-flag laws, licensing and registration, closing the gun-show loophole and banning weapons of mass destruction — such as assault-style rifles and high capacity magazines — punish innocent people, who are being killed every single day because Cox and people that may agree with him do not want to be inconvenienced.
