Erin Mendenhall and David Garbett were standouts in the mayoral race debate recently at the public library. Each showed that they were serious, informed and well prepared, and they communicated their visions well.
For that reason, I was dismayed to see that Jim Dabakis was ahead in the polls. How is that possible? He came across as stodgy and even clown-like at times and seemed content to restate old ideas. Our city deserves and needs better.
The population of Salt Lake City and the state of Utah are expected to nearly double in the next 20 to 30 years. If you think we have problems now with air quality, water, traffic, crime, homelessness, education and job creation, just you wait.
It was very clear that Mendenhall and Garbett had it right and both have the energy and skill to lead us in the right direction. Each seems to understand the many crucial issues facing SLC and, equally as important, they seem to have a sense of urgency to solve them.
Please give them your utmost consideration.
Dave Klock, Salt Lake City
