The lead front page story in the July 30 Salt Lake Tribune was a tribute to Norma Matheson, matriarch of a family of public servants who have contributed greatly to Utah. Thank you. You’re right. The Matheson family has helped our state over a long period of time.

The opposite headline story was about what a disgraced former Republican congressman thinks. A man who spent eight years in Congress and contributed nothing for Utah. Nothing except to embarrass us with his theatrical self-serving quest to find anything to prosecute Hillary Clinton and to get his name in the news.

His results: no indictments, no convictions, nothing but wasted taxpayer money and the loss of some representation that might have benefited our state.

Then he asked to be reelected, and Utah Republicans sent him back. Except, amazingly, the Democrats won the House and he would have had nothing to do, as he had never had any plans to benefit our state.

He found all his press hounding and dubious press releases had enabled him to make more money with Fox News. So he quit us, like losers often do, to let Utah waste millions of dollars and our time in a special election to find someone to replace him.

Of course without the caucus system he would never have been elected in the first place. And now it’s gone. And so is he.

The Tribune finds his opinion to be headline news — why? His opinion has never mattered before. Please. He is gone. He won’t be back. Let the sleeping dog, Jason Chaffez, lie and disappear as he deserves. No one suddenly cares what he thinks. Please try not to bring up a bad memory by saying his name in print.
