Letter: Anderegg’s Prop 3 comments echo the quintessential GOP philosophy of selfishness

I read with disgust and anger the comments in The Salt Lake Tribune from state Rep. Jacob Anderegg, R-Lehi, regarding Proposition 3. The arrogance of this person stating that he has "political cover" for not implementing Prop 3 because 80 percent of the people in is district voted against it.

Anderegg’s statement reflects the quintessential Republican long-held philosophy of selfishness. Maybe in Anderegg’s District 13 no one needs help. But in other districts there are lots of Utahns who do need help.

Prop 3 was passed due to the efforts of Utah residents at the grass roots who see the need for the Medicaid expansion. Utah voters passed the initiative in November and expect it to be implemented in its entirety in April.

Clearly Prop 3 will cost money. The money will be spent in either legal fees to lawyers suing the state for ignoring the will of the people, or spent in determining how best to implement Prop 3 for the maximum benefit of Utah residents who are eligible.

Which will it be?
