His recent op-ed piece in the Washington Post gave everyone but the true Trumpers hope that he would stand up to President Donald Trump. However, his first chance to put action to his words, he failed.
I’m referring to the Senate vote to prevent Trump from lifting the sanctions that were to punish Russia for interference in the 2016 election and passed overwhelmingly by both parties. Eleven Republicans went against Trump and voted to keep the sanctions. Where was Mitt?
Was Mitt promised a key committee seat by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell? Does Mitt somehow believe that Russia did not interfere in our election, even though there is plenty of public information supporting that claim?
I think Mitt owes us an explanation so as to disprove my cynical guesses. He or his staff could write another article with some answers. Maybe this time he could show his adopted state a little love and submit it to The Salt Lake Tribune. Surely he can explain the contradictions between his op-ed and his vote supporting Trump’s lifting the Russian sanctions. Please prove that my cynicism is misplaced.
