Letter: Utah should have some honest traffic laws

The purpose of this new .05 percent blood alcohol content law is to curb traffic accidents and save lives, right ?

If our lawmakers really want to do that, and make a real difference, they should ban hand-held cell phones while driving. According to statistics and recent TV clips, distracted driving is responsible for one in four traffic accidents, most usually, cell phones.

After careful observation and a lot of thought, I’ve come to the conclusion that our legislators here in Utah are not only avid users of cell phones while driving their cars, along with their fellow church goers and other privileged individuals who would be busted for such acts, and they do it with impunity, all the time, without consequences.

Therefore, they chose to attack a poor blue collar and other workers who just want to have a couple of drinks to relieve some stress and relax. Also, there is no way that a hands free cell phone is the same as a hand-held device. Who ever came up with that preposterous observation?
