Letter: Hold Congress responsible for shutdown

The way to keep the government operating is to apply pressure to the members of Congress to settle their differences. It’s my suggestion to halt congressional paychecks along with those of the supposedly non-essential government employees.

Someone in Washington made the decision about who is to be paid during the shutdown. Members of Congress should be added to the list of those not to be paid. Every member of Congress knows that it is their responsibility to keep the government running. They also know there is not a single issue they deal with that is not negotiable.

We are enforcing political correctness in all aspects of our lives. It is politically incorrect to shut down the government. However, it is like much of what we do — we can do more if we have some incentive to do it.

Both the Republicans and the Democrats are guilty of neglecting their responsibility.
