Mark it! On Dec. 30, 2018, a personal and political tragedy occurred. Mr. Smith went to Washington and became corrupted.
On that day, Utah’s Sen. Mike Lee announced to the nation, during an interview with Politico, that he is, with eyes wide open, abandoning his personal principles for a mess of political pottage seductively served up by President Donald Trump for the support of his presidential re-election. Who, with honor, can support a president who has operated a criminal enterprise all of his adult life, glutted with numerous adulterous affairs, propped up with lies and deceits, and who is currently under investigation for being suborned by the president and godfather of Russia and his oligarch mafia?
What is now known about this unethical and immoral president and his crime family enterprises is far worse than what Lee knew in 2016 when armed with powers of discerning principles that stirred him to oppose the Trump candidacy. Apparently, Lee has decided to surrender his discerning principles for legislation passed with the help of the president and his family and for an aspiring appointment to the Supreme Court.
Earlier, Sen. Orrin Hatch sadly disgraced his legacy, excusing Trump from lies and criminal activities charged against him, and now Lee dispensed with his personal principles for political prizes, disgracing his future.
Their disgrace discredits the whole of Utah. So much for the heralded “Utah Way,” which of late has devolved into backslapping compromises of the worse kind — relinquishing honor that cannot be given nor taken.
