Recently some parents of a student at Pioneer Elementary in West Valley City didn’t realize how close their child came to being run over by a car and not coming home.
A car was parked over the sidewalk. A young child walking down the sidewalk had to walk around the front of the car into the drop-off zone. As the small child stepped into the area, a car entered and neither could see each other because of the parked car.
The child missed stepping in front of the car by seconds and, fortunately, was not mangled by the moving car.
The drop-off zone is filled with signs indicating the path is for dropping off only, but cars still park there (for years) while their drivers go into the building. This is dangerous for parents dropping off their children and dodging around the illegally parked cars. These drivers are never disciplined for their illegal parking. This emboldens them to push the limits further, even to park on the sidewalk. Someone needs to enforce the rules before a precious child gets hurt and can’t come home to their family.
