David Haughey, in his letter to the editor ("Essential electors," Nov. 22), responded to an earlier letter by Richard Muranaka by giving an excellent explanation of the value of the Electoral College.
He went on to rightly criticize Muranaka for name-calling when he called President Donald Trump a sociopath and a fool. Such name-calling contributes to the violent disparity between right and left points of view.
But then he went on to call Democrats haters, liars and thieves, stealing civil liberties and religious freedom. He is correct to say "this utter polarization of America could lead to our destruction.”
